Medicare FAQ
Here are some of the most frequently asked questions we receive:
What is Medicare?
Medicare is a national health insurance program for people 65 and older and people with certain disabilities.
How Do I Sign Up for Medicare?
You can enroll at the local Social Security office or by visiting their website at www.ssa.gov/medicare. If you are already collecting Social Security income benefits, then you will be automatically enrolled in Medicare Parts A and B at age 65.
What is Medicare Part ABCD?
Medicare has 4 parts. Parts A and B are considered your Original Medicare. These provide hospital and outpatient medical benefits. Part C is optional private Medicare coverage, also called Medicare Advantage. Part D is optional drug coverage for retail outpatient prescriptions drugs.
Who Pays For Medicare?
During your working years, our federal government collects taxes to prepay your Part A hospital benefits. When you retire, your Part A is paid up, but you will have to purchase Parts B and D. Even so, our nation's taxpayers foot a large portion of the costs of Medicare.
What is Part F of Medicare?
Plan F is a Medigap plan, or sometimes called Medicare Supplement. It is the most comprehensive Medicare supplement, covering all of the gaps in Medicare.
How Much Does Plan F Cost?
Medicare Supplement costs vary by region, zip code, company, gender, age, tobacco use and whether or not you are eligible for any household discounts. A Medicare insurance broker like Boomer Benefits can provide you quotes for all of the carriers in your area.
